Rolf Aldag has a new role. The former team director of Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe will be joining Canyon//SRAM zondacrypto, where he previously worked. Aldag will hold a 'senior leadership position' within the team and will act as a bridge between management and the performance staff.
Aldag left this summer after three years with Primoz Roglic’s team, after which Sven Vanthourenhout was announced as his successor. In the farewell message, Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe described the German ex-rider as one of the driving forces behind the team's success, which included winning the 2022 Giro d'Italia (Jai Hindley) and the Vuelta a España (Roglic). “He has left a lasting impact,” they said at the time.
Now Aldag is announced at Canyon//SRAM zondacrypto, the team of Kasia Niewiadoma and Zoë Backstedt. The German already worked at the team in 2020, where he made a strong impression. “Rolf communicates very well and is a true tactician,” says team manager Ronny Leuke. “He knows how to bring people together and I can’t wait to work with him again. He is one of the architects behind some of the most successful teams in the past decade.”
Aldag is also happy to be back with the team. “I have always stayed in contact with the team. When Niewiadoma won the Tour de France Femmes, I enjoyed it from a distance. The growth of women’s cycling is wonderful to see but also brings new challenges to stay at the top. Together with Ronny, who has a very clear vision for the team, the partners, staff, and riders, I am highly motivated that Canyon//SRAM zondacrypto can remain at the top in the coming years,” he concludes.
