Bad news for Sara Casasola. The Italian cyclocross rider from Crelan-Corendon, who had to pull out at the last minute from the Superprestige Niel last Tuesday, will also miss the upcoming cyclocross weekend. Both the Superprestige Merksplas and the X2O Trophy Hamme events will take place without her.
Casasola crashed at the European Championships in Middelkerke and was still too affected on Tuesday to race in Niel. However, it is mainly another issue that is currently troubling her. "Sara was still struggling with a respiratory tract infection," Crelan-Corendon said in a press release. "A week of rest should normally be enough for a full recovery with an eye on the rest of the season."
Crelan-Corendon will have to miss not only Casasola but also Marion Norbert Riberolle in Merksplas and Hamme. The Belgian champion was hit by a car during training last Sunday and consequently had to withdraw from the races in Niel, Merksplas, and Hamme.
