Giovanni Carboni was provisionally suspended by the International Cycling Union due to unexplained anomalies in his biological passport, but Unibet Rose Rockets has now also announced that it has "terminated its collaboration" with the Italian rider prematurely.
The 30-year-old Carboni has been on the sidelines for some time, after being provisionally suspended by the UCI for unexplained anomalies in his biological passport. According to the cycling union, these anomalies were detected in 2024. This was before he joined Unibet Tietema Rockets. That team also decided to suspend him immediately.
The French squad with Dutch roots is now taking a step further and has since parted ways with the experienced climber. "After carefully weighing all factors, it has been decided to terminate the collaboration with Giovanni Carboni prematurely," the press release reads.

"This decision follows the notification that he has been provisionally suspended by the UCI, for developments that took place before he joined Unibet Tietema Rockets on January 1, 2025. We subsequently entered into discussions with the rider. Despite the presumption of innocence, after an internal investigation we have concluded that there has been a breach of the duty of transparency and loyalty."
"Although this decision falls outside the disciplinary procedure of the UCI, it underscores our unwavering commitment to integrity, transparency, and open communication, in line with our values and status as a member of the MPCC (Movement for Credible Cycling)," the team concludes.
Carboni was in his first season with Unibet Tietema Rockets. In 2024, the year the anomalies were detected, he rode for JCL Team UKYO. That year he won two stages and the overall classification of the Tour of Japan. He also triumphed in the third stage of the Tour of Bulgaria. In previous years, Carboni rode for Equipe Kern Pharma, Gazprom-RusVelo, and Bardiani CSF Faizanè.[/wftk_box]
