Zoe Bäckstedt has provided an update on her recovery process. The 21-year-old British rider, who suffered a serious crash during training at the end of October, hopes to make her comeback in cyclocross later this year.
Bäckstedt has not raced this cyclocross season yet. She sustained two small fractures in her hand and wrist. "My wrist is healing well," she writes now. "I'm back on the bike, but only on the smart trainer. It's driving me crazy, but that's life!"
"Hopefully, after my next check-up, I can start training outside again and get the green light to start thinking about racing! If all goes well, I’ll be back by the end of the year. Keep your fingers crossed for me!"
Bäckstedt, who ended her road season with a stage win at the Simac Ladies Tour and a victory in the U23 time trial World Championship in Rwanda, made an impression in cyclocross last season. She stood on the podium in the World Cups at Dublin, Maasmechelen, and Zonhoven, and in January she claimed the rainbow jersey for the U23 category for the second year in a row.
