Stage 1 Terneuzen - Breskens (182.7km)
The evening after the team presentation at the Markt in Terneuzen, the peloton sets off in Zeeland, heading via Hulst toward the finish in Breskens. The terrain along the way is completely flat, making it ideal for the sprinters — but not any less dangerous.
After all, we are in Zeeland, a region synonymous with wind and echelons. The riders pass numerous dikes, wind turbines, and wide polder roads before tackling three local circuits in Breskens itself. The strong wind could easily create echelon situations, potentially producing the first time gaps of the race already in the opening stage.
