Ceylin del Carmen Alvarado stood on the podium of the Superprestige cross in Diegem for the fifth time in her career on Tuesday evening, but once again it was not on the top step. So the Fenix-Deceuninck rider spoke after the race of 'mixed feelings' in an interview with Sporza.
"I’m standing here with mixed feelings. It was okay, but actually it was just bad. I couldn't get into my pedal at the start, and there were crashes as well, so I couldn't immediately get back on the wheels."
"I tried to close the gap (to Puck Pieterse and Marie Schreiber, ed.) as quickly as possible, but I pushed myself a bit too hard chasing, and my back started to hurt. That’s when I knew the race was over for me."
The back again
Alvarado has often dealt with back problems in the past. "Although this is something different than what I usually suffer from. How will I get through this? That’s difficult in this busy period."
"I have to find the balance between racing and getting enough rest. I’ve already had to skip several races because of my back. We’re taking it race by race. We’ll see if it gets resolved."
