Who is the best rider in the world? The answer depends on the lens through which you look. That’s why we offer two different but complementary rankings: the Cyclingflash Rankings and the Cyclingflash 365 Rankings. Both provide a reliable picture, but from different perspectives. Together, they tell the full story of every rider.
In cycling, you want to know two things: How strong is a rider today? and How did he/she perform over the past year? That’s why our lists come in two flavors for both men and women:
Cyclingflash Rankings → your current strength per discipline (for example in Sprint, Hill, Mountain, Time Trial, GC and Overall).
Cyclingflash 365 Rankings → a 365-day weighting of your position or strength in those same Cyclingflash Rankings throughout the past year.
Together they provide the complete picture.
The Cyclingflash Rankings are the snapshot of your level per discipline. They get updated daily based on recent performances against the strength of your rivals.
Win or score well against strong opponents → you rise.
Disappoint against weaker opponents → you fall.
Not active? Your ranking slowly drops due to increasing uncertainty.
Example: the Sprint Ranking shows who is the fastest sprinter right now. If you are currently fifth, you are a top-5 sprinter at this moment. Regardless of what you did three months ago.
| Rank | Rider | Rating |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 1006 | |
| 2 | 994 | |
| 3 | 993 | |
| 4 | 980 | |
| 5 | 929 |
The 365 Rankings always look back a full year (365 days). They compare how strong you were each day in the regular Cyclingflash Ranking. All those daily scores are shown in a weighted sum. This results in a 365 Ranking figure that shows how strong you have been on average throughout the entire year, not just today.
Your peak moments (periods where you ranked high in the regular ranking) count heavier.
Raced more often and ranked well more often? That increases your 365 score.
Every day the window shifts: old days drop out, new days are added.
Note: You can rank high in the 365 Ranking while currently being lower today, but that means earlier in the year you ranked high multiple times in the daily Cyclingflash Ranking. Otherwise, you wouldn’t be at the top of the 365.
Marc Hirschi
Cyclingflash Hill Ranking (now): 121st
365 Hill Ranking (365 days): 5th
Why? He was high in the Hill Ranking late last year and early this year. His current dip affects his current position, but his 365 Ranking remains high for now due to those earlier peaks.
Arnaud De Lie
Cyclingflash Sprint Ranking (now): 7th
365 Sprint Ranking: 17th
Why? He only recently found his form again. His 365 Ranking lags behind because there isn’t yet a long trail of high daily positions.
Mathieu van der Poel
Cyclingflash Hill Ranking (now): 2nd
365 Hill Ranking: 2nd
Why? He has ranked highly for months; strong now and over the year.
Cyclingflash Rankings (how strong are you now?): top riders ≈ rating 1000
365 Rankings (365-day weighting): top riders ≈ rating 2000
Season scores are higher because they capture the cumulative/weighted impact of your daily strength over a year.
Each discipline (Sprint, Hill, Mountain, Time Trial, GC and Overall) has both lists, for men and women. View them side by side to see who is strongest right now and who has been consistently strong over the past year.
