Jasper Philipsen is okay after crash in Tirreno-Adriatico final stage
One of the most notable victims of a crash in San Benedetto del Tronto during the final stage of Tirreno-Adriatico was top sprinter Jasper Philipsen. The Limburg rider from Alpecin-Premier Tech was therefore unable to defend his chances.
Philipsen went down together with Paul Magnier and part of the peloton three kilometers from the finish, but he got back up fairly quickly. This suggested that the damage might not be too serious.
Sporting director Christoph Roodhooft brings reassuring news in HLN. Philipsen only has some abrasions. "It's a shame, but otherwise, it seems there's nothing wrong. Everything is okay with Jasper," said Roodhooft. "I wasn’t there, but Jasper says Magnier actually comes too late. They hook handlebars. It’s especially unfortunate that it happens just three kilometers from the finish."
Nokere Koerse on Wednesday and Milan-San Remo on Saturday therefore remain on Philipsen’s schedule.
