Pink Paul Magnier at a loss for words after Giro win: "I'm going to enjoy this so much..."
Paul Magnier is the proud first wearer of the pink jersey in the Giro d'Italia. The Frenchman from Soudal Quick-Step beat Tobias Lund Andresen, Ethan Vernon, and Jonathan Milan in a stage marred by a crash and will continue his Giro tomorrow in the pink jersey. "I am really so happy, it is unreal," the young Frenchman beams in the flash interview.
"I am so, so proud of the team and this achievement. I was already very happy to start the Giro this week in good form, and now I also have the pink jersey," Magnier can hardly believe it himself.
The new pink jersey holder then shares his view on the hectic finale, in which Dylan Groenewegen and Kaden Groves crashed heavily. "It was very hectic in the finale. The stage was otherwise very easy, so everyone came into the final kilometers with fresh legs. Luckily, as a team, we managed every time to find the right position on the narrow roads. Dries Van Gestel and Jasper Stuyven did a fantastic job for me, and I am very happy that I was able to finish it off."
"This is only the first time I have been able to sprint against Jonathan Milan, but I am very happy that I was able to beat him. I already have great memories from the Giro Next Gen, where I also wore the pink jersey. To be able to do that again now in the Giro d'Italia... I am really going to enjoy it," he concludes.
