Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe will no longer be active in the transfer market. The financially strong German team has presented its final signing for 2026 with Arne Marit. For the 26-year-old Belgian, there was no longer a place in the merged team Lotto-Intermarché.
Marit started his professional career in 2021 riding for the then Sport Vlaanderen-Baloise. While racing for this formation, he steadily made progress, especially in sprints, and scored his first pro victory at the Grand Prix du Morbihan. This put him on the radar of Intermarché-Wanty, and he signed a contract with the WorldTeam at the end of 2022.
Racing in the colors of Intermarché-Wanty, new wins didn’t come, but Marit sprinted to a number of podium finishes in recent seasons, including at the Tour Down Under, Tour of Catalonia, and the Vuelta a España. Due to some bad luck (crashes and injuries), he was not always able to showcase his full sprinting potential.
Still, Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe sees Marit as an asset to their sprint squad. Riding for the German team, he can further develop as a sprinter, although the team already boasts two recognized sprint weapons in Jordi Meeus and Danny van Poppel.
"Arne is a rider who can deliver right away," says Chief of Sports Zak Dempster enthusiastically in a press release about the speedy Belgian. "With his natural speed, race instinct, and reliability, he is a valuable addition to our sprint and classics group. Importantly, he is also a rider with clear growth potential. We are confident that together we can take the next step."
Learning from Danny van Poppel
Marit has been linked to Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe for some time, but now the deal is official. The sprinter even calls the team his ‘dream squad’. "For me, this is truly a dream come true. I am confident that I can take the next step in my career here. I am especially looking forward to learning from Danny van Poppel in sprinting."
Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe will start the new season with a roster of exactly thirty riders. Marit is certainly not the only new signing for manager Ralph Denk’s team. Remco Evenepoel is the most eye-catching newcomer, but also Gianni Vermeersch, Mattia Cattaneo, Jarrad Drizners, Adrien Boichis, Callum Thornley, Luke Tuckwell, and Haimar Etxeberria are new to the WorldTeam in 2026.
Compared to last season, Roger Adrià, Jonas Koch, Anton Palzer, Oier Lazkano, Filip Maciejuk, Ryan Mullen, Matteo Sobrero, and Sam Welsford will no longer be part of the team.
There is still no clarity about the futures of Koch, Palzer, Maciejuk, and Welsford, while Lazkano is currently suspended due to suspicious fluctuations in his biological passport. Red Bull-BORA-hansgrohe has already parted ways with the Spanish cobblestone specialist.
