Team Jumbo-Visma won all the Grand Tours in a single season in 2023. That was unprecedented. No rider has ever managed to achieve that individually. Still, Tadej Pogačar believes he is capable of it. “I think that should be possible, yes,” the UAE Emirates XRG leader told WielerFlits, among others.
In 2024, the Slovenian already won both the Giro d’Italia and the Tour de France in one season. At the end of the year, he also added a world championship title. Several riders in the past have done that, including Eddy Merckx. Since Pogačar has already won so much in his career, he sometimes has to look for new challenges. Although he thinks he can win all the Grand Tours in a single season, he won’t rush into attempting it.
“I don’t know if I would do it,” says the 27-year-old world champion. “First, I would have to sit down with the team management, and all the other riders would also need to agree. I think it wouldn’t be fair if I claim all the Grand Tours. There are so many other guys on our team who can win a Grand Tour. Maybe that would create a conflict of interest. I’m not obsessed with these kinds of challenges or hungry for everything. It’s not a burning desire.”
Tadej Pogačar was just asked whether he thinks it’s possible to win all the Grand Tours in a single year. Laughs: "I think so, yes. But I wouldn’t find it fair towards the other team leaders in our squad." @WielerFlits
