Stage 14 Treviso - Nova Gorica (195.0km)
From the cyclocross city of Treviso, it again goes over billiard-flat roads to Nova Goriza/Gorica, a city that is shared by Italy and Slovenia. The finale does get a few short climbs, but the expectation is that we - for the umpteenth time in this Giro - can again please the sprinters.
Where Vicenza is the capital of the Veneto province, Treviso is closer to the well-known Venice. It's sometimes called Little Venice and was crowned the greenest city in Europe this year. Yet cycling fans will mainly think back to the two Cyclocross World Cups that took place in 2006 and 2010 in the Italian city and of course the Cyclocross World Championships of 2008. Lars Boom triumphed then on the slightly uphill finish line.
But the riders don't stay in Treviso for long. Through Veneto and Friuli, it goes to the finale in Nova Goriza/Gorica. We can hardly call this a coincidental passage. This city is indeed the Cultural Capital of Europe in 2025. Was it a lure to get Tadej Pogacar back at the start?
In any case, the sprinters must first be able to overcome the San Martino and Saver climbs in the full finale. Although we suspect that especially that last bump of less than 800 meters at 6.4% will not pose a major threat to most fast men. The sprint goes in a slightly downhill line.
