Stage 18 Morbegno - Cesano Maderno (144.0km)

This should be the penultimate chance for sprinters in the Giro d'Italia. The middle part of the stage is still difficult with the last convulsions of the Alps, but the finale is simply made to please the fast men. Moreover, the stage is on the short side with barely 144 kilometers of racing.

From Morbegno, nestled in the Lombardy Bitto valley, which is known for the cheese of the same name, the peloton is flagged off. They follow the shores of Lake Como for a while, before the Parlasco (2nd category), Colle Balisio (3rd category), and Ravellino (3rd category) three climbs loom.

Normally, however, those bumps should not pose a problem for the fast men on the way to Cesano Maderno, a place that in 1979 and 2008 still got to organize the final time trial for the Giro d'Italia.

This time the sprinters are in charge. And they also get all the circumstances in their favor. The finish is drawn on a circuit of 13 kilometers long. There are some corners in it, which should take out the pace. But in the last three kilometers, there are only two weak corners. The last 750 meters go in one straight line over 8 meters width.
