Stage 2 Tirana - Tirana (13.7km)

The second stage of the Giro d'Italia takes riders through Tirana in an individual time trial of 13.7 kilometers. Along the way there is a small climb, but for the rest, the chrono is virtually flat.

The time trial through Tirana will nevertheless create significant time differences. It's notable that the time trial is quite technical. In the 13.7 kilometers there are quite a few corners where speed must be reduced. And the climb halfway is a good 1.2 kilometers with an average gradient of 5.7%.

The climb begins after 6.2 kilometers, as riders pass along the large city park in Tirana. The first 900 meters has a gradient of 6.4%, after which the last few hundred meters are false flat. The only intermediate point is at the top, after which riders begin the descent via a U-turn along the other side of the road.

The time trial is straight ahead for a few kilometers after the top, but with two kilometers to go, another challenging U-turn is made into the center of Tirana, where the finish of the time trial lies. This time trial should also suit Wout van Aert, although we know that with Joshua Tarling there's another time trial specialist participating.

Later in the Giro d'Italia there will be another time trial. This one is twice as long at 28.6 kilometers and brings the riders from Lucca to Pisa in the Tuscan countryside.
