Stage 12 Laredo - Los Corrales del Buelna (144.9km)
The twelfth stage of the Vuelta looks interesting on paper. It is a stage where the first and second halves almost mirror each other. The route is mostly flat, with a second-category climb appearing after 35 kilometers and a first-category climb after 115 kilometers. The quick math gives you the full distance straight away: 145 kilometers, from Laredo to Los Corrales de Buelna.
After 35 kilometers, the Alto de Alisas (8.3 kilometers at 6%) should provide the early entertainment. From there, about seventy kilometers of flat to rolling terrain lead to the Collada de Brenes (6.6 kilometers at 8.3%). This is where the stage should be decided, as from the summit only around twenty kilometers remain, mostly downhill, to the finish. Once again, it looks like a day for the breakaway—unless the favorites launch their moves too early on the final climb.
