Stage 17 O Barco de Valdeorras - Alto de El Morredero (143.2km)
We get our tenth uphill finish the very next day (and it’s not the last). Over 137 kilometers, the riders travel from Valdeorras to the Alto de El Morredero. Unlike Tuesday, the run-up to the final climb isn’t particularly exciting. There’s some rolling terrain, but nothing serious. The first mountain points of the day come on the Paso de las Traviesas (7.8 km at 4.2%).
After that climb, the final ascent quickly appears — the stage isn’t very long. The Alto de El Morredero (18.1 km at 6.3%) is a first-category climb with several very steep sections. Immediately after crossing the river, there’s a 3.5-kilometer section averaging 10.3%, followed by a brief flattening. Later, another tough section comes in at 4.3 kilometers averaging 8.7%. In short: plenty of opportunities to make a difference.
